Friends Only
I've been cleaning out some of the boxes in the attic because some of them have been up there since probably the turn of the century. And I don't mean 1999 to 2000, I mean 1899 to 1900. I found one full of Peter's childhood drawings and books and papers and, besides making me cry, it made me happy. Because he is alright, and alive.

And damn hilarious.

Tell me, Father Peter. Is it actually encouraged by the church to ask God for things like this?

You are, as ever, priceless, Little Brother. I have loved spending my life with you.

And, as children bring about a wonderful feeling of joy, Emma and I want to adopt again.

Dennis Clark always stole my playlunch!! He was a MEAN man! Boy. Thing.

Okay okay, I was a sissy. But God SO should have taken that in to account when I was FORCED to go to stupid camp.

Stupid adventure stupid survival stupid camp.

Ahem. Adoption! Liz, you and Emma are wonderful mothers and any child you take in to our family is so incredibly lucky.

You should have been on camp with me and Jess! We always had a fantastic time, though those were also the times we had our philosophical discussions that led to my eventual atheism... life might have taken a very different turn for you. (You might also have caught Aly's notorious lesbian kiss.)

Liz! It's wonderful to hear that you and Emma will be adopting another child. Whoever it is will find themselves incredibly blessed to be taken into such a loving family. I'm so pleased!

You so would have stolen my playlunch too, I know you! Though, had it taken a different turn, I wouldn't have met Thomas. Which, I suppose might be worth missing the lesbian kiss. But only just...

Wow, male alert.

Ooooh, burn! You dastardly man, Peter. I'll get you for that one!

Oh dear, male alert indeed. That's my sister and my childhood best friend you're talking about!

You have a good point there... rats. Though rats, oddly enough, also only further your previous argument...

Well I suppose it was that.

Poor Aly learned that she was woefully doomed to never enjoy the love of a good woman. She would just have to make do with men.

Le Sigh.

Well, he shouldn't have been sent to camp at all, but father insisted. Poor kid came back every year, thinner, miserable, and covered in welts from being bitten by various...biting things.

I'm pleased too! I can't wait!

Did you go to one that had dorms instead of tents? The one Peter went to had dorms, but he STILL managed to be miserable. And he only went for a week with his school class!

Yes, he was in fact, quite horrible. It doesn't make what you wrote (in your immaculate 8-year-old handwriting) any less funny!

I agree. Stupid camp.

Thank you, Peter.

Oh my, that is just priceless! As you so keenly observed there. Dennis Clark indeed. I wonder where he is now. A different camp, no doubt...

That's awesome news about you adopting again! It'll be absolutely brilliant, for all concerned. Have you thought about who you'll adopt yet? Boy, girl? Older, younger?

It'd be funny if he ran a camp!

We haven't gotten than far, which means the possibilities are endless. Hope showed us that we probably want to adopt someone older though. Not necessarily a teenager, but so many couples go for babies and ignore any of the older children. I hate that they might be denied a home because they aren't newborns.

Peter and I weren't orphaned until we were older. And if I hadn't been old enough to take care of him, he might not have had a home to go to. So it's quite a personal thing for me.

Oh yes, a classic case of the prayer taking effect in the extreme! Movie perfect.

You're so right about all that, and you've been so wonderful for Hope and Zoe. I think that's a beautiful thing, to choose a child who not everyone would. So many parents want a child just to be able to mold them into little mini-thems. But you would take a child in to nurture and support the person they are. And you do it so well. I can't wait to see it all unfold.

They might not have liked me so much...though, I think the reason they DID like me was because I didn't so much tell them what to do as guide them to, I don't know...use their own brains. So maybe that kind of honesty would have been appreciated.
